Types of Purchase Orders Issued

State Contract Orders

The Texas Building and Procurement Commission (TBPC) issues annual contracts to take advantage of volume purchasing discounts and to reduce repetitive bidding on commonly used items. A large variety of items are covered by these contracts. These include supplies, equipment, materials, and services.

Because these contracts consolidate the group purchasing power of all State Agencies, the value available in the use of these contracts is many times unequaled. In practicing best value procurement, departments should always consult the state contracts prior to completing any purchases.

Small Orders (PBO)

Small Orders are issued by University Departments for items costing $2,500 or less.

PO (PB3 & PB4)

Requests are processed by the Purchasing Department for the purchase of:

• Goods and materials to be paid from state appropriated funds, regardless of total.
• Services to be paid from the state appropriated funds regardless of total.
• Goods and materials to be paid from non-state appropriated funds regardless of total.
