Transfer International Student Requirements

International admissions advising hours are 1 p.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Wednesday and Friday. There are no available advising hours on Thursdays.

Transfer Students

Transfer students with fewer than 30 semester credit hours must meet freshmen and transfer requirements.

Transfer requirements:

  • Applicants must submit official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions attended, even if they do not wish to transfer the credit to UTSA.

    Note: When calculating the cumulative grade point average for admission, ALL attempted coursework is considered. Repeated and failed courses are not excluded.

  • Students transferring from a foreign college or university must have at least a cumulative 2.5 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale in all college hours attempted.
  • Students transferring from a U.S. college or university must have at least a cumulative 2.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale in all college hours attempted.
  • UTSA accepts credit only from recognized accredited academic institutions.
  • A foreign credential evaluation is required for all foreign transcripts. UTSA recommends Foreign Credential Services of America (FCSA). You may choose any member listed at www.naces.org.
  • Official transcripts must bear the official seal and/or original signatures of school authorities from the issuing school.
  • We require either Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test scores.
Internet-based TOEFL exam (iBT)
  • 00-60 Conditional admission
  • 61-99 Degree-seeking admission
  • 100+ Evidence of English proficiency
Paper-based TOEFL
  • 000-499 Conditional admissions
  • 500-599 Degree-seeking admission
  • 600+ Evidence of English proficiency
IELTS
  • 0.0 – 4.5 Conditional admission
  • 5.0 – 6.5 Degree-seeking admission
  • 7.0+ Evidence of English proficiency

The TOEFL or IELTS can be waived if:

  • The applicant graduated with a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university.
  • The applicant has successfully completed 45 or more semester hours of transferable credit from a U.S. college or university.
  • The applicant has successfully completed 30 or more semester hours of transferable credit from a U.S. college or university to include college level English Composition I with a "B-" or better.
  • The applicant graduated from a U.S. high school and completed two years of regular English courses.
  • The applicant scored 500 or greater on the SAT critical reading or 21 or greater on the ACT English component.

Note: F1 or J1 visa students

  • Confirmation of financial resources (CFR) for any student expecting to enter on an F1 or J1 visa: Click Here.
  • Confirmation of financial resources is not required for admission. However, it is recommended that you become familiar with the requirements and be prepared to submit your financial documents upon acceptance to the university.

Note: Attestations of Original Document

  • When an original document cannot be duplicated according to the secondary school, university, or examining board policy, attested copies may be substituted.
  • Attestations MUST be obtained either from the issuing college/university's Registrar, the Controller of Examination/Records or the Principal.
  • Attestation includes appropriate signature and official stamp.
  • Copies attested by notary officials, translators, head of department, lecturer, other government posts, etc., are not acceptable substitutes.

Conditional Admission:

  • The University of Texas at San Antonio offers Conditional Admission for International Undergraduate Students who have not met degree-seeking admission score requirements for the TOEFL or IELTS, yet are otherwise qualified academically based on freshmen requirements.
  • This is a one-time application process.
  • Students interested in conditional admission should apply using the online Texas Common Application for the semester they wish to begin the Intensive English Program (IEP).
  • Students who are granted Conditional Admission will first enter the UTSA Intensive English Program.
  • After successfully completing the IEP and achieving the appropriate TOEFL score, students will be promoted to the baccalaureate degree program listed on their application.
  • Students who have taken or expect to take the TOEFL or IELTS before the application deadline will not be considered for conditional admission until such scores are on file.
  • Students who have already achieved a sufficient level of English language skills to meet UTSA admissions requirements should not apply for Conditional Admission.

To Apply

  1. Apply online at applytexas.org
  2. Pay an application fee of $40
  3. Submit your official transcripts from each college/university attended.
  4. 4. Submit a foreign credential evaluation of your foreign transcript. We recommend Foreign Credential Services of America (FCSA) or any member listed at www.naces.org.
  5. Send your TOEFL/IELTS scores directly from the testing agency.
  6. 6. If you have less than 30 semester hours of college level coursework at the time of application, you must also submit the documents required for Freshmen Students.

Additional Notes:

  • UTSA International Undergraduate Admissions does not accept scanned/faxed transcripts or test scores.
