Thank you for your interest in the College of Architecture at the University of Texas at San Antonio!
The next four years will keep you busy as you progress through the curriculum. Architecture and Interior Design are unlike any other major. Courses in the major begin from your first day of class and continue throughout the next four years. During most fall and spring semesters you will be enrolled in a studio-based course. These courses will keep you busy with sketching, detailed drawings and building models.
As academic advisors for the College of Architecture, we are responsible for advising sophomores, juniors and seniors. We are housed in the Downtown Undergraduate Advising Center, located in the Buena Vista building, room 1.304. You may visit our office or call 210-458-2550 to set an appointment with an advisor. During your initial appointment we will teach you how to read your degree plan. You may find that if you take notes during your advising appointments you will have a tool to help you stay on track with your classes as well as answers to your questions asked during your appointment. Since students are responsible for registering for classes, it is very important that you learn how to access and navigate ASAP, UTSA’s Automated Student Access Program. Through ASAP, you can access the schedule of classes, your bill, and the UTSA student email system. Your student email is the official means of communication between students and the UTSA community.
Whether you’re studying Architecture or Interior Design you are going to be in a demanding program therefore you need to be able to manage your time. In order to do this, you should use a planner or a calendar to organize your time outside of class. One of the more common reasons why students do not do well in our program is because they are unable to manage their time well and stay on task. Even the best students have to manage their time and stay organized. No matter where you go to school, and no matter how high your gpa may be, if you’re studying Architecture or Interior Design, you’re going to be busy!
