- Fer returned from her visit to G. Whitesides' lab. We are very happy to have her back! We would like to thank the entire group for the hospitality and specially Dr. E. Carrilho for being such a great host.

- Dr. Carlos Neves from the University of Sao Paulo will join the lab to work in the lab-on-a-robot. His goal is to develop a second prototype of the device.

- Dr. Garcia and M.F. Mora survived the trip to Peru (Pan American Advanced Studies Institute, PASI). This was an incredible experience to discuss topics related to ecology and chemical ecology. Some pictures are available...
-Dr. Carla Giacomelli spent with us the whole month investigating the interaction of proteins with nanomaterials.
May 08:
- Dr. Garcia and Dr. Ayon (EE) received a grant from the South Texas Technology Management (STTM) as the inaugural round of grants from the POCsparc (Proof of Concept: Short Proposal to Accelerate Research Commercialization) program. The $25000 POCsparc award will help advance a Lab-on-a-Robot toward commercialization.
- Dr. Garcia received the 2008 UTSA's Presidential Distinguished Achievement Award for Research Achievements (tenure-track category). This annual award is to recognize, encourage, and reward those individuals whose research efforts have been particularly sucessful and have brought recognition locally, regionally, and in some cases, internationally. This tribute acknowledges not only work but also the essential teaching function of the University. This award also recognizes the hard work of all the members (past and present) of the lab.
