Welcome
The Center for Research and Training in the Sciences (CRTS), previously known as Center for the Advancement of Life Sciences (CAS), was established within the College of Sciences (COS) in June 2005.
The mission of the CRTS is to promote Science, Research, and Education. The Center coordinates and administers programs related to all scientific disciplines under the direction of Dr. Andrew Tsin. Currently, the Center oversees 13 research and training programs with participants from various disciplines within UTSA. These participants include graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, and postdoctoral fellows.
What can CRTS do for you?
- If you are a student interested in gaining research experience, this Center might be able to help you.
- If you are interested in teaching and would like to earn your teaching certification at the same time as you earn your College of Sciences Degree, CRTS might have the answer to your needs.
- Perhaps you are a Tenured/Tenure track UTSA Faculty needing assistance with research funding; CRTS might be able to help.

Every year these programs provide millions of dollars of funding support through scholarships, stipends, and grants. You can also contact the Program Administrators for further information. The Center for Research and Training in the Sciences is located in the Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering (BSE) Building, second floor, suite 2.300, and the Biosciences Building (BSB), second floor, suite 2.03.02.
Office hours are: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. More information about the CRTS can be obtained in the CRTS Policy Handbook.
