Disability Statements for University Publications
Accommodation Taglines for University Publications and Programs
To help ensure accessibility in all programs, courses and events at UTSA, the following taglines have been adopted for placement on all University publications, program announcements, brochures, flyers and syllabi.
The "Host Department" is defined as the individual UTSA department(s) sponsoring an event, NOT Student Disability Services (SDS). The person's primary contact should be with the host department. The host department may certainly request consultation with the SDS for any disability related issues or accommodations. Please contact our office if you have any questions about accommodation requests at your events.
Publications shall include the following statement or its equivalent:
This document is available in alternative formats upon request by contacting (name, host department) at (phone number).
If a text telephone (TDD) number is available, it should also be included.
Registration materials and program announcements, which include bulletins, flyers, brochures, letters, public service announcements, or other materials used to inform the public of the event or program must also include the following statement:
If you need an accommodation to fully participate in this program/event, please contact (name, host department) at (phone number/voice). Please allow sufficient time to arrange the accommodation.
If a text telephone (TDD) number is available, it should also be included. NOTE: A program may designate a date by which it would like to receive accommodation requests. However, a program may not refuse to provide an accommodation because the request was not made by the designated deadline. The program must try to provide the accommodation.
If an event includes a meal, the registration materials should include the following statement:
If you have special dietary needs, please contact (name, host department) at (phone number/voice).
If a text telephone (TDD) number is available, it should also be included. In lieu of the phone number, a section may be created on the registration form that allows an individual to designate special dietary needs.
A syllabus for a course might include the following statement:
Americans with Disabilities Act: The University of Texas at San Antonio is on record as being committed to both the spirit and letter of all federal equal opportunity legislation, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). All instructors at UTSA are required by law to provide "reasonable accommodations" to students with disabilities, so as not to discriminate on the basis of that disability. Any student requiring an accommodation for this course must provide the instructor with official documentation in the form of a letter certified by the staff in the Office of Student Disability Services. Only those students who have officially documented a need for an accommodation will have their request honored. Information regarding diagnostic criteria and policies for obtaining disability-based academic accommodations can be found at www.utsa.edu/disability or by calling Student Disability Services at (210) 458-4157.
