Welcome UTSA Family

Now that the fall semester is underway, what better time to come back to UTSA than for Family Weekend!  Events are designed to allow family members to connect UTSA in a variety of ways.  Catch the Roadrunner athletic teams in action, participate in a 5K run or relax to the sounds of our Saturday evening concert.  Listed below, you will find events designed for our UTSA community.  Events are free of charge, unless otherwise noted.  Check back as more events are sure to be posted! 

Friday Events

October 23rd

Event: UTSA Soccer vs. Sam Houston State*
Location: UTSA Soccer Fields

The UTSA Women’s Soccer team takes on the Bearkats in this Southland Conference Match for “Senior Night”. UTSA Soccer Fields are located next to parking lot 12A and Chaparral Village.  Parking available in lot 12A.

Rec Run

Event: Rowdy Rec 5K Run- Sponsored by Campus Recreation
Location: Campus Recreation Center Paseo
Cost: UTSA Students-Free; Non-student Rec Members-$5; Non-Rec Members and Affiliates-$10

The 3rd annual Rowdy Rec Run is a great way to start your day! This run route will take participants through different campus landmarks.  An awards ceremony and refreshments will be available in the Recreation Center Pool Area, once all participants have crossed the finish line!

Event: Coffee Mixer with UTSA Faculty and Staff
Location: University Center Courtyard Café Area


Mix and mingle with UTSA faculty, staff and other families at this pre-breakfast event! 

Event: Family Weekend Breakfast
Location: Denman Room, University Center
Fee: Adults: $12.00 (includes coffee mixer); children under 12yrs and UTSA students: Free

Everyone is welcomed back to the 3rd Annual Family Breakfast! Scheduled speakers include Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Gage Paine and University Provost, Dr. John Frederick.  UTSA students and children under 12 yrs., who are accompanied by their Family Weekend guests, will receive complimentary breakfast! Menu will include scrambled eggs, french toast, hashbrowns, sausage, bacon, fruit and more. Parents: The deadline to make payment for this event is October 21st. Please RSVP for all guests, by calling Orientation and Family Programs at (210) 458-4724.

Event: UTSA Volleyball vs. Central Arkansas*Girls Volleyball
Location: Convocation Center
Fee: $2 for Family Weekend participants.  Students free with valid UTSA ID.

The Women’s Volleyball team battles the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears.  Catch the Roadrunners in action as they make their final push towards the Southland Conference Tournament. 

Event: Family Association Fall Semester Meeting
Location: Harris

We invite you to make plans to attend our Family Association Meeting! This is your chance to give input on the direction of the Association, volunteer to plan family activities at Homecoming, and learn more about how parent’s can impact student activities on campus.  

Event: Parental Perspective in Housing (2 sessions)
Location: Laurel Village Conference Room


Parents are invited to attend either one of these informal sessions to hear from campus officials about what your student might experience during their first semester of college, as well as what you can expect as parents of first-time students or transfers. Additionally, we will provide you with information on how we are responding to H1N1. More importantly, we will be on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding your son or daughter residing in on-campus housing. 

Event: Barbecue Dinner at the Cafe: Presented by Aramark
Location: Roadrunner Cafe
Fee: Cafe dinner door rate-$8.15 per person.  Students may use meal plan swipes.


Let us do the cooking as you enjoy a Texas style dinner.  Sauce anyone?... The Roadrunner Cafe will be serving up barbecue and giving families a place to enjoy a great meal.  Students with meal plans can treat up to two family members to dinner.    

Event: Roadrunners Late Night Concert Featuring Dave Tamkin
Location: University Center Courtyard


Come out and enjoy an evening under the stars listening to the acoustic renditions of Dave Tamkin.  Roadrunners Late Night events host a variety of events beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

Family Weekend Scheduled Hours of Operation

Bring the family and spend a day at FrightFest Six Flags Fiesta Texas!   During UTSA Family Weekend Days, wear your UTSA apparel for 25% off at select park locations (Oct. 23-25).    Tickets are available for purchase at Orientation and Family Programs, MS 2.01.10, (210) 458-4724, during normal business hours.  Cash and check payments are accepted. 


Event: Institute of Texan Cultures
Location: 801 E. Durango Blvd. San Antonio, TX 78205
Fees: Adults $8, UTSA Students admitted free with valid ID


This 182,000-square-foot cultural experience museum features 65,000 square feet of interactive exhibits and displays that tell the stories of Texans.  The TUSKS! Ice Age Mammoths and Mastodons exhibit and Texas Contemporary Artists Series featuring Leigh Anne Lester 93’ are just some of the current attractions on display.
