International Aid Programs

International Grant Program

The UTSA International Student Grant is a need-based award given to both undergraduate and graduate international students based on need and availability of funds. The maximum award is approximately $1,000 per semester. Financial aid award letters will be sent in mid to late July. Only awarded students will be notified.

To be eligible for the UTSA International Student Grant applicants must:

  • Demonstrate Financial Need.
  • Maintain full time enrollment.
  • Maintain good academic standing (not on probation or suspension).
  • Graduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
  • Maintain a valid F-1 or J-1 Visa.
  • Have a valid Social Security Number.
  • Permanent residents need to apply directly to the Office of Financial Aid.

The following required information must be submitted to be considered for the UTSA International Student Grant:

  • A UTSA International Student Grant Application.
  • Copy of I-94 and I20ID.
  • If married, a copy of the I-94 or Birth Certificate of Dependents in the United States.
  • If employed, a copy of last year’s W-2 Form or copy of year to date pay stub.
  • If spouse is employed, last year’s W-2 Form or copy of year to date pay stub.
  • Copy of valid Social Security card. 

Additional Documentation:

  • A statement explaining fully your need for financial assistance.  Include any recent change in your financial situation and explain why you cannot obtain the total amount of funding necessary. 
  • Indicate how you meet your current monthly expenses.
  • If no financial aid is forthcoming, how will you meet your financial needs?

The following required information must be submitted to be considered for the UTSA International Student Grant:

  • Unusual Medical Expenses: Unusual expenses are expenses not normally incurred by an average family (i.e., cancer treatment, extensive surgery, etc.).
  • Evidence of Termination of Scholarship or Stipend.
  • Evidence of Death of Sponsor (Death Certificate required).
  • Other extraordinary information (i.e., Sponsor withdrawing support- Letter from sponsor required).

Good Neighbor Scholarship

The Good Neighbor Scholarship provides an exemption of tuition for students from the nations of the western hemisphere (except Cuba and the U.S.). Financial Aid award letters will be sent in mid to late July.

To be eligible for the Good Neighbor Scholarship applicants must:

  • Be in valid F-1 or J-1 status.
  • Intend to return to their home country
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • Take a minimum of 12 hours (undergraduates) each semester, or 9 hours (graduate students).
  • Application must be made by the middle of February for the following year.  Application forms are available at the Office of Financial Aid or at the Enrollment Services Desk in the first floor of the JPL.
