Graduation Initiative News

The GI has renamed its newsletter to better reflect the multi-facted goals of the Graduation Initiative. The GI newsletter is published semi-annually with one issue each in the fall and spring semesters. Newsletters are listed below in reverse chronological order, with the most current issue first.

Graduation Initiative News 6-2 Highlights include refocus on 4, Late Intervention, Welcome Back Update, students with excess hours, most recent graduation rates, working while in college, F4 student recognition story, Meet the GI staff member, and GI Good Guy recognition.

Graduation Initiative News 6-1 Finish in Four launch, Late Intervention statistics, Class of 2016 profile, Welcome Back update, student story, 2-year college credit, attending college in home state, and GI Good Guy recognition.

Fifty-three, was the name of the newsletter of the Graduation Initiative for the first five issues. It was named for the graduation rate goal set by President Ricardo Romo in 2008.

Fifty-three Issue 4.1- Edition about staff changes, Late Intervention success, Legislative preview, One-year anniversary of Rowdy Cents, Women Veterans as students at UTSA, a first-time Kudos Corner, and a first-time GI Good Guy award.

Fifty-three Issue 3.1 - News on the launch of the Student Money and Time Matters web site, recent policy changes at UTSA, how the new Welcome Back program helps former students complete their degree, how the Outstanding Sophomore Scholarship performed at retaining high achieving students, recent state legislative actions, changes to how the state calculates graduation rates, how the Jump Start math review program continues to help students, graduating students think of UTSA, veterans as students, non-returning freshmen, and a team member profile. Published October 2009.

Fifty-three Issue 2.2 - Topics include the Outstanding Sophomore Scholarship, results from the Late Intervention, the Teaching and Learning Center, looking Beyond Graduation Rates, Student Money and Time Matters, Progress Update on overcoming institutional barriers to graduation, a look at the Student Population, a note on our Move, Policy Watch, Distance Education, our developing Welcome Back! program, and a Team Member profile. Published April 2009.

Fifty-three Issue 2.1 - Contains stories on the Jump Start math review program, higher-education incentive funding, summary of the 2008 progress report on meeting Closing the Gaps goals, the improvement in retention from Dialing for Freshmen, the role of the Retention and Graduation Analyst, and brief biographies of the team members. Published October 2008.

Fifty-three Issue 1.1 - The first issue of the Graduation Initiative's newsletter. Contains stories on graduation rate targets, the Late Intervention program, and insights from a study on student financial behaviors and their impact on academic success. Published April, 2008.
