Name: Raul Lopez Jr.Bio: Born and raised in South Texas, I came to San Antonio to seek better opportunities in the medicine field. Currently I am the Webmaster for Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Medical Honors Society and I am working alongside two other undergraduate students to start up our own non-profit organization in diabetes and obesity prevention. I hope to one day become an MD and a specialist in Oncology. After my bachelor’s degree, I plan to attend graduate school at UTHSCSA and become part of the Molecular Medicine Program with a primary focus in Cancer Biology.
Name: Hannah BeckBio: My name is Hannah and I’m 19 years old. I’m classified as a sophomore until December, and I’m so excited to see UHSA grow even more during its second year. I moved to Texas when I was 8, and I very recently bought my first pair of cowboy boots! I really enjoy politics, government, and debate. I have a caffeine addiction and a tendency to speak too quickly. Name: Chris LopezBio: I am from Laredo, TX and graduated from John B. Alexander High School in the class of 2011. My hobbies include traveling, staying active, participating in sports, playing guitar, and reading. I am currently pursuing a career in dentistry. I hope to return to South Texas in the future to serve communities in need of health professionals.
Name: Maria ShahBio:Maria Shah is about to start her second year at UTSA, and as historian of UHSA, she is excited about all the new events and opportunities UHSA has to offer for the honors college students. She is part of the Dental Early Acceptance Program Class of 2014! As a UTSA Ambassador, Freshman iMentor, and secretary of the Muslim Student Association, Maria is passionate about the UTSA community and is always willing to help any of her peers.
Name: Tracy De LeonBio: Tracy de Leon will be starting her second year at the University of Texas at San Antonio working on her pre-medical undergraduate degree in Biology. She is working towards realizing her hopes to become a physician and is shadowing a renowned cardiologist at the University Health Science Center at San Antonio. As a UTSA Ambassador and secretary of the University Honors Student Association, Tracy is passionate about her community and serving others. Apart from her main concentration in school, her hobbies include reading, baking, and traveling because nothing pleases her more than building a deeper appreciation for our world. Tracy looks forward to pursuing her career at UTSA, with her drive and dedication at the forefront to help reach her goals and contribute to her community.
Name: Karla TerrazasBio: Karla plans to pursue a medical degree to become an OB/GYN. She is also currently working on an independent study in Dr. Bower’s neurology laboratory. Being her second semester at UTSA, she has gained great pride in her university and her community. As the Freshmen Mentoring Committee Chair in the University Honors Student Association, Karla hopes to help incoming freshmen be successful in their first year by assigning them great leaders as their mentors. Name: Alegra LozanoBio: Alegra is the Assistant Director of Student Programs and Recruitment for the Honors College, and is the instructor of the Honors Service Learning course. She is a two time alum, receiving both her B.A. in Psychology and M.A. in Counseling from UTSA. She has worked for UTSA for 10 years in learning assistance, mentoring, academic advising, program coordinating, and teaching.
