Application for Housing

How to Apply

UTSA students should complete a UTSA Online Housing Application. A $200.00 deposit must be submitted with the application. Chisholm Hall and University Oaks applicants, $50.00 is held as a non-refundable application fee. Chaparral Village applicants, $25.00 is held as a non-refundable application fee. Before you sign a housing contract for a particular complex, your application and deposit may be transferred within the UTSA housing system. The deposit will be refunded upon request, if all cancellation criteria are met and all monies owed to the particular complex have been paid. Deposits are applied against unnecessary wear and damages, and are used to deter late cancellations. The date on which the deposit is received will establish priority for particular assignments.

Housing Contracts/Leases

Contracts/Leases are only distributed and accepted if you have been fully admitted to UTSA. Students may apply for on-campus housing at any time. Space is reserved on a first-come first-served basis. Housing contracts/leases are mailed beginning in March for fall and summer applicants, and in October for spring applicants.

Students may choose either:

Type of Contract/LeasePeriodAvailability
Academic YearAugust through MayChisholm, U. Oaks, and Chaparral Village
Full Year August through AugustU. Oaks and Chaparral Village
Spring OnlyJanuary through MayChisholm, U. Oaks, and Chaparral Village
Summer OnlyMay through AugustU. Oaks and Chaparral Village

Fall only contracts are not available at any of the three complexes.

It is important that you read and understand any housing contract before you sign and make that commitment. It is important to know cancellation deadlines, penalties for leaving at mid-year or during the contract period, and eviction penalties. For Chaparral Village applications, view the Terms and Conditions .

Assignments

Both UTSA and Campus Living Villages (CLV) provide residential facilities on our campus. Due to contractual obligations between the University and CLV, housing assignments are based on student demographics. However, you may REJECT any assignment and be placed within the housing facility of your choice if space is available.

We understand you have a housing preference; however, due to our contractual obligations to CLV, you will be automatically assigned to Chisholm Hall. You will have the choice to either accept the assignment or reject it and be assigned to another complex. All rejections for Chisholm Hall will result in an automatic reassignment to University Oaks. You will have the choice to either accept this assignment or reject it and be reassigned to Chaparral Village.

Your rejection of the assignments to both Chisholm Hall and University Oaks results in an automatic reassignment to Chaparral Village at UTSA. This is the process we must follow in order to place any student in Chaparral Village.

Assignment Acceptance and Rejection forms will be mailed to new applicants beginning in January for the fall or summer applicants, and in September for spring applicants.

Roommate Matching

Roommate requests are honored when possible. Roommate requests need to be mutual. It is difficult for us to honor roommate requests when they are not mutual. Roommates must also be assigned to the same type of unit, i.e., both need to be assigned to either a 4-bedroom or 2-bedroom unit. Roommate assignments are made beginning in July so both roommates must have their roommate requests and a completed, signed contract on file in order for us to assign them together in the same room. One person cannot hold a space for another person.

For residents that do not have specific roommate requests, we will match roommates together using specific criteria that we have found works best. There is no 100% guarantee that roommates will get along no matter what criteria is used in matching. However, our staff is committed to assist residents in meeting and interacting with their assigned roommates.

Complete our Roommate Questionnaire.

Dates and Deadlines

Cancellation Deadlines

Once a contract/lease has been signed and returned, the cancellation deadlines must be met for any refunds to occur. Cancellation requests must be made to the specific housing complex that a student accepts. It is important that students and their parents know and understand the specific cancellation criteria for the individual complexes.
