UTSA Law School Fair brings real legal experience
Chances are good that students won't figure out their niche until
they're halfway through law school. "Law school should be a
time of exploration," Miller said. "Not knowing what kind of law you
want to practice is not unexpected. It's standard." "There are
so many opportunities to use your law degree in support of other
academic and professional interests."

Catholic School Exodus is
Evaluated
A study
of San Antonio's Catholic schools has confirmed what Catholic
educators long have suspected: The plethora of South Side and
inner city Catholic schools are struggling with enrollment while the
few schools in the North Side suburbs have waiting lists. That
imbalance is among several topics addressed by the study,
commissioned last year by the Archdiocese of San Antonio to help
craft a roadmap for the future of its 47 Catholic schools.
"The study will help to understand better the
challenges that we have in the Archdiocese of San Antonio as we
prepare Catholic schools to meet the needs of children in the 21st
century," Archbishop José Gomez said.
The study was completed by a
University of Texas at San Antonio research team headed by Richard
Gambitta, director of the Institute for Law and Public Affairs,
geography Professor Richard Jones and sociology Professor Gabriel
Acevedo.

ILPA Recruiting Drive
“We look for a variety of characteristics, but the number one
thing we look at is potential. We want students that are willing to
work hard and learn much and to reap great benefits from their
participation,” Dr. Richard Gambitta, director of the Institute
for Law and Public Affairs, said.
“We are looking for students that are
going to be focused and want to excel in ways they perhaps never
have before. What we really want most of all is a morality of
aspiration, a morality to excel.”

SYLLABUS - Learning the Law
This is what each student is preparing for at UTSA’s
Summer Law School Preparation Academy. Set up in 2002 to emulate the
law school experience, the summer academy pushes students through
two summers of rigorous course work. The academy’s mission is
two-fold: get academy graduates admitted to law school and prepare
them to excel in law school.

Pre Law Prep Assists Students
This is law school at its best — and most
challenging — but these students aren't yet in law school. In
fact, they haven't even taken the law school entrance exam.
The pre-law academy was created in 2002 and offers undergraduates
two summers of grueling course work to prepare them for law school,
pass the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and help them excel once
they're admitted.
