Q: Why does UTSA charge a fee to park on campus?

A: Business Auxiliary Services is one of the university's auxiliary departments, and must be completely self-funding relative its parking operations. Costs for UTSA parking facility construction, maintenance, enforcement, administration, and shuttle bus operations must be funded by fees assessed to UTSA parking system users. Business Auxiliary Services receives no tax dollars or tuition fees to support its parking or shuttle bus operations.

Q: I want a student parking garage permit. How do I obtain one?

A: The student North Parking Garage permits are currently available, but student permits in the South Garage are sold out.. You may be added to a garage wait list by emailing parking@utsa.edu. Please include your name, Banner ID number and garage preference. When a space becomes available you will be contacted via your UTSA email account with information on how to obtain the permit.

Q: When will additional parking become available?

A: Business Auxiliary Services is reviewing ideas on how to construct the next parking garage. BAS will work with the Parking & Traffic Committee and UTSA administrators on planning.

Q: I live in The Oaks and have a visitor arriving.  How do I obtain a permit?

A: Parking at The Oaks requires a University parking permit. To obtain parking for a visitor you may go to the South Garage cashier office during business hours and purchase Resident scratch-off permits for $3 each, sold in packs of 5.

Q: I will graduate in the fall . Is there a Fall-only permit?

A: No, you must purchase an annual permit. You will receive a partial refund if you return your permit Business Auxiliary Services at the end of the semester.  The amount of your refund is dependent on the date the permit is returned. No refunds are granted after March 1st.

Q: Will there be a grace period for parking tickets at the start of the semester?

A: No. Students are expected to order their permits before the start of each semester. If you purchased a permit for the spring semester please bring your receipt to one of the Fiscal Services Offices or to PTS to pick-up your permit. 2009-2010 parking permits are valid through August 20, 2010.

Q: Do I need a parking permit if I only go to school in the evenings?

A: Yes. A permit is required at all times on the Main, DTC, and HemisFair Park campuses. Permit restrictions will be lifted for parking in the Commuter Student (unmarked) spaces on the Main campus only between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. weekdays and at all times on weekends and during semester intersessions..

Q: Do I need a permit to park in the University Oaks Apartments, Chaparral Village, or Chisholm Hall?

A: Yes. Housing Residents who wish to park at The Oaks, in Lots 1A and 1B, Chisholm Hall, Lot 14, and a portion of Lot 12 must have a Student Resident parking permit.

Q: Can I park anywhere after 4:30 pm with a Student permit?


A: No. Between 4:30 pm and 6 am Monday through Friday, and all day on weekends, Student General and Remote permit holders may "park up" to Faculty/Staff B. Resident permit holders, during the above hours, can "park up" to Student General and Faculty/Staff B. You may NOT, at any time, park in Faculty/Staff A, Reserved, Garage, or any other marked spaces

Q: If I park at the short-term parking spaces and have a current parking permit, do I still have to pay the pay station?

A: Yes. The pay station must be paid whether you have a current permit or not.

Q:  Will my 24-hour reserve permit allow me to park in any 24-hour reserve space?

A:  Yes.  24-hour reserve permits are allowed in any 24-hour reserve space, except in reserved garage spaces, where 24-hour reserved garage permits are required. A 24-hour reserve garage permit is valid in any of the UTSA parking garages.

Q: I just received a parking ticket I don't agree with.  What can I do?

A: Click on Forms and Publications, then scroll to "How do I file an appeal?"  Click on the appropriate affiliation (faculty, staff, student or visitor), then complete the form and click "submit."

Q: I can't afford to purchase a parking permit.  What options do I have?

A: Two VIA Park and Ride offer the convenience of parking without a permit and accessing campus using the VIA routes 93 or 94 for free. The University Park and Ride is located below the IH10 and Loop 1604 interchange. The Crossroads Park and Ride is located at 151 Crossroads Blvd. You may ride free of charge on any of the UTSA Shuttle buses. PTS operates two on-campus routes, the Lot 13 route, and two apartment routes. Bus service between the UTSA Main and Downtown campuses is available through an agreement with VIA Metropolitan Transit. UTSA students, faculty and staff can ride the VIA Express routes 93 or 94 at no charge with a valid UTSA Card.
