What is the UTSA Employee Educational Benefit Program?
The UTSA Employee Educational Benefit (EEB) was initiated by UTSA Staff Council and approved by President Romo to promote our main institutional mission of "education" and to enhance and promote employee benefits, recruitment and retention.
Who is eligible for the EEB?
Any current benefits-eligible employee (20 hours or more a week) who has been appointed as such for at least twelve (12) continuous months as of the first day of class of the semester and has applied and been officially admitted to the University. For reporting and tracking purposes, these employees will become a designated "class of student" based on the approved eligibility parameter. To remain in the program you must continue to be eligible to enroll in classes by meeting UTSA academic standards.
How many hours per semester will EEB apply?
EEB will apply for up to 6 credit hours per fiscal year.
What does a qualified employee pay?
The qualified employee will pay only the state resident required tuition, the records processing fee and any other fees described as supplemental, voluntary, lab, graduate incremental tuition, college or course-specific incidental fees, and advising fees. The qualified employee will also pay the entire costs of any credit hours taken over the 6-credit hour limit per semester.

For Example:
If an employee took one three-hour undergraduate course in Fall 2008 that had no lab or course-specific fees, they paid $252.00 in tuition and another $166.50 in fees for a total of $418.50 Under UTSAs Employee Education Benefit Program, they would pay $126.00 in tuition and a $5.00 records processing fee for a total of $131.00; a savings of $287.50.
If an employee took one three-hour graduate course in Fall 2008 that had no lab or course-specific fees, they paid $378.00 in tuition and another $166.50 in fees for a total of $544.50. Under UTSAs Employee Education Benefit Program, they would pay $252.00 in tuition and a $5.00 records processing fee for a total of $252.00; a savings of $287.50.
When does this benefit become effective?
Effective Fall 2001 semester, eligible employees may register and receive the EEB for up to six hours for the fiscal year for which they meet the prerequisites.
The coursework does not have to be job related. Supervisor's prior approval is not required unless the employee wants to take course work during the employee's normal workday. Refer to Handbook of Operating Procedures: (Section 4.8 Employees as Students).
How do I get started?
Staff members should apply for admission by the appropriate deadline using the on-line electronic version of the Texas Common application.
