All scholarships awarded by the College of Liberal and Fine Arts require the recipient to:

  • Be majoring in a discipline within the College of Liberal and Fine Arts and actively pursuing a degree
  • Unless otherwise stated, be enrolled full time: 12 hours for undergraduate students and 9 hours for graduate students
  • Unless otherwise stated, the application deadline for all scholarships is Feb. 15

DEAN'S CIRCLE SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $2,000 annually, awarded $1,000 in the fall and $1,000 in the spring. Spring award is based upon satisfactory performance in the fall semester (completion of at least 12 semester credit hours with a minimum 3.0 GPA)

  • Must have declared a major in any one of the disciplines in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must enroll as a full-time undergraduate student ( minimum 12 semester credit hours)

Application requirements: Completed scholarship application form, brief essay and a letter of recommendation from UTSA faculty member. (Transfer students can provide a letter from a professor at a college or university previously attended)

THE DAVID BOWEN MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT FOR STUDY IN EUROPE
Award: Number and amount of awards vary

  • Must be an undergraduate student actively pursuing a degree with a declared major in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts at The University of Texas at San Antonio
  • Must register with the Office of International Programs/Study Abroad program and meet the criteria below in order to be eligible to receive the award
  • The award will be applied toward the costs associated with the student's participation in a European educational travel experience, as approved by the Dean of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. Travel experience must be at least two weeks in duration.

Application requirements: The David Bowen Memorial Endowment for European Study application, Proof of registration with the UTSA Office of International Programs/Study Abroad Program, Copies of travel program information and applications (as applicable), A letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty member, Completed Budget Form.

BEVERLY DUREN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amount of awards vary

  • Must declare a major or minor in art or music (preference given to music majors/minors)
  • Must be an entering freshman who has graduated from a high school in the Harlandale (Texas) Independent School District
  • Must have a minimum 2.75 high school cumulative GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by Student Financial Aid
  • Must exhibit leadership capabilities

Application requirements: Beverly Duren Memorial Scholarship Application; two letters of recommendation from high school faculty who are familiar with the applicant's academic and extracurricular achievements must be submitted

HACEMOS (HISPANIC ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNICATION EMPLOYEES OF SOUTHWESTERN BELL) SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $1,000 annually, awarded $500 in the fall and $500 in the spring. If matching funds are available from the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, the amount of the scholarship will be doubled.

  • Must have declared a major in any discipline in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
  • Must enroll in and complete a minimum of 12 semester credit hours each semester
  • Must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by Student Financial Aid
  • The scholarship will be awarded to students with disadvantaged backgrounds and who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Disadvantaged background means either 1) that the applicant comes from a low-income family and is certified by his or her undergraduate institution as having exceptional financial need or 2) that the applicant comes from an environment that inhibited (but did not prevent) the person from obtaining the knowledge, skills, and ability to enroll in an undergraduate institution.

Application requirements: Completed scholarship application form and brief essay about oneself and educational goals

JOHN S. JOCKUSCH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN THE LIBERAL ARTS
Award: Number of awards and amounts vary and are dependent upon the number of qualified applicants and availability of funds.

  • Must have a declared major in a liberal arts discipline within the UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts and be actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. The COLFA Dean has identified current liberal arts undergraduate majors in the college as; American Studies, Anthropology, Communication, English, French, German, History, Humanities, Philosophy, Classical Studies, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish. Art and Art History majors and Music majors are not eligible for this scholarship.
  • Must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA during the year in which the award is received.
  • Must be enrolled full time (12 credit hours for undergraduate students; 9 credit hours for graduate students) during the year in which the award is received.

Application requirement: Completed John S. Jockusch Scholarship application form. Brief essay: "Describe why you have chosen your major and your plans after graduation from UTSA." A letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty member. Transfer students and graduate program candidates can provide a letter from a faculty member at a college or university previously attended: first-time undergraduate students can provide a letter from a high school teacher.

KANGROO COURT RESTAURANTS OF TEXAS, INC. ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP IN COLFA
Award: $2,000 a year

  • Must have be an undergraduate or graduate student with a major or concentration in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. Preference will be given to students with a major in geography
  • Must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Must enroll as a full-time basis ( 12 hours for undergraduate and 9 hours for graduate)

Application requirements: Completed application, brief essay about why you have chosen your major and your plans after your graduation, and a letter of recommendation from UTSA faculty member. (transfer students may use faculty from previously attended college or university and incoming freshman may use a high school faculty)

 

MARY PAT AND LOUIS H. STUMBERG ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR INTERSIDCIPLINARY STUDIES IN MUSIC AND THE SCIENCES
Award: Number and amount of awards vary

  • Scholarship available to undergraduate or graduate students
  • Must be actively pursuing a degree whose course of study combines musical and scientific learning and whose intellectual growth exemplifies the benefits of interdisciplinary scholarships
  • Students demonstrating the above with either music minor and a major in one of the disciplines below OR be a music major with a minor in one of the disciplines below.
    • All disciplines in College of Engineering
    • All disciplines in the College of Science
    • Anthropology
    • Communication
    • Psychology
    • Sociology
    • or other social and behavioral science disciplines as may be add in the future
    • Graduate students can have a music major with secondary research focus in one of the above disciplines OR a major in one of the disciplines above and secondary research focus in music

Application requirements: Completed application form, and a brief essay (no less than 200 words) explaining the importance of music in your intellectual and personal life. For graduate students, the essay should include an explanation of your research areas of focus.

THE USAA FOUNDATION UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP IN COLFA
Award: Multiple awards. Award amounts dependent upon the number of qualified applicants and funds available. Equal amounts awarded in the fall and in the spring. Spring award is based upon satisfactory performance in the fall semester.

  • Must have declared a major in any one of the disciplines in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
  • Must be an undergraduate with at least 24 hours of college credit before the beginning of the fall semester
  • Must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA
  • Must enroll in and complete a minimum of 12 semester credit hours each semester

Application requirements: Completed USAA Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship in COLFA application, brief essay and a letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty member. (Transfer students can provide a letter from a professor at a college or university previously attended.)

THE ALAMEDA/UTSA ENDOWED INTERNSHIP IN MUSEUM STUDIES
Award: Amount of award varies depending on funds available and the number of applicants each year. Past awards have been approximately $1,000, and are awarded prior to the start of the internship. Internships available for funding: The Alameda, San Antonio, Tx; the University of Texas Institute of Texas Cultures at San Antonio; The Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C.; The Kennedy Center; or other cultural institutions as deemed appropriate by the donor.

  • The internship award shall be provided to a full-time or part-time student enrolled in a graduate program in Anthropology, Art History or History and actively pursuing a degree at UTSA
  • Preference will be given to students who have completed at least 20 credit hours toward their master's degree.

Application requirements: Completed application and a 500-word narrative proposing the organization where you expect to complete your internship. The narrative should explain how the internship experience fits into your academic development and area of study, and what you hope to gain from experience.
In consultation with the graduate advisors of record, applicants are responsible for making internship arrangements.
