Monthly Report – February, 2007

 

A total of 1648 students (1508 at 1604, 140 downtown) were seen at Student Health Services clinics. Self care usage by students totaled 305 at 1604.  Nursing staff evaluated/assisted 1257 (1195 at 1604 and 62 downtown) of these and physicians (General Medical/Well Woman, Psychiatric and Orthopedic) provided care for 478 (450 at 1604, 28 downtown) students.  Students referred off campus for medical treatment were 128 (118 at 1604 and 10 downtown). Concerns continue of inadequate space for nursing staff to see patients on days when multiple physicians are in the clinic. Psychiatrists saw 52 students, had 8 cancellations, 25 reschedule and 16 no show by students. The psychiatrists were not all available during the month. A total of 112 prescriptions (109 at 1604, 13 at downtown campus) totaling $2,691. Lab tests (224/$4,560 at 1604) (29/$730 downtown) were done totaling $5,290. Seventy-four students were no shows for doctor appointments. Six medical waivers were completed. Performance evaluations were completed for all applicable staff. Quality Assurance Review was completed and passed. Health education was occupied with the following events and activities:  Go Red for Women at both campuses, Alcohol EDU, National Condom Day/Sexual Awareness Week, hiring of 3 new peer educators and the Health Educators attending the MEI-PCC/CADCA conference in Washington, DC. The HIV Grant, Howaida Werfelli and Kathy Ceresoli attended the MEI-PCC Conference in Washington DC. National Sexual Responsibility Week was the main focus of February and the preparation of Safe Spring Break on March 5 and 6.  Student Mentor applicants were interviewed and 4 students were hired and will be starting March 5. Alcohol EDU has had 5244 students complete the mandatory online program.
