He is the Past President of the UTSA chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Past Vice President and President of the UTSA chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Past Leadership Development Chair of the UTSA chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, and former parliamentarian of the African Student Association. When DJ was asked what leadership meant to him, he replied “I believe that leadership is about leading; not only when you have a leadership position, but to be able to lead in every aspect of your life, in your community, between your peers, family, and even people you meet daily”.
The Outstanding Black Student Leadership Award was created to honor those senior African American/Black students who have excelled in the classroom and who have worked to create community on campus across cultural and ethnic lines through their campus involvement and leadership activities. 4th Annual Up ‘til Dawn at UTSA raises over $15,000!!
Congratulations to the Greek Life community and the UTSA community for their efforts in raising money for Up ‘til Dawn. This year a total of $15, 854 was the largest total in the four year UTSA history. In total the event has raised $51,280.
Up ‘til Dawn is a student-led, student-run philanthropic program hosted by many colleges and universities nationwide. UTSA is lucky to be one of those campuses that give back to a cause that affects children nationwide but also in our local San Antonio community. The students that are involved in hosting this event have become personally committed to supporting the children of St. Jude seeing that their members and community give back to such a worthy cause. The UTSA Up ‘til Dawn event has been hosted for the past four years. This event was a Greek Life community initiated program that opened its event to the UTSA community two years ago. Weeks of planning and preparation culminate when the student organization hosts its Up ‘til Dawn event, where they ask friends and family to donate to St. Jude and participate in games and activities to celebrate their efforts. Students honor the patients of St. Jude who bravely fight cancer. With the money the campus raises, these students help advance the mission of finding cures and saving children ... so that patients can grow up and go to college, too.
The 5th Annual Up ‘til Dawn will be held November 12, 2011 where the students hope to continue to raise the bar for themselves and the UTSA community.
Any further question email UptilDawnUTSA@gmail.com. Up ‘til Dawn is currently recruiting new members.

CORPUS CHRISTI — The UTSA women's golf team won its first-ever Southland Conference Championship on Wednesday at Corpus Christi Country Club.
The Roadrunners, who defeated Lamar by seven strokes, shot a final-round 297 and not only captured their first title in just their sixth year of competition, but they also picked up the athletics department's record fifth championship of 2010-11 (men's basketball, soccer, men's indoor track & field, volleyball are the others). UTSA finished the three-day event with a final scorecard of 900 (306-297-297).
"This was the result of a lot of hard work and it was a team effort all three days," third-year head coach Carrie Parnaby said. "These ladies played their hearts out and I'm so proud of each of them. They completely deserve it and it's a great day for UTSA Golf."

Extra innings, Wolff Stadium, a superior opponent against whom they'd had little success — virtually every circumstance stood against UTSA on Tuesday against No. 9 Texas A&M.
The Roadrunners persevered through it all, rallying to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth and winning 3-2 in the 10th on Matthew James' RBI single.
Riley Good sped home from second, beating the throw to the plate with a split-second to spare.
