Wellness Tips

This week we hit 106 degrees here in San Antonio, and working out just doesn’t sound like a cool idea in that kind of weather. But there are some fun things you can do in the summer to stay active and beat the heat. If you like going to the lake with your family, spend some time in the water. You don’t have to swim laps in the water to expend energy. Simply playing around in the water burns a lot of energy! You can also try more activities in the pool. Water aerobics classes are a great option, or if you are a swimmer and enjoy getting in the lap pool, this is great exercise as well.

The mountains are also a good summer destination. Higher elevations provide cooler temperatures, but they also provide less oxygen. This means your body is going to have to work harder and expend more energy at a higher elevation to provide your body with the same amount of oxygen that it would at a lower elevation.

No matter what you do, just remember to drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen!
