“Move-In Day”

Kens 5 partnership

The Office of Housing and Residence Life and Campus Living Villages are very excited to kick off the 2011-2012 Academic year in welcoming its newest members of the Roadrunner community to campus. With “Move-In Day” rapidly approaching, Chaparral Village, Laurel Village, Chisholm Hall, and University Oaks would like to request your help in assisting our new students with their arrival to campus.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to bring their biggest Roadrunner Pride and donate their time to help the “On-Campus Roadrunners” move into their new home. This is an opportunity that allows you to meet new students, showcase your organization, and show your pride as a UTSA student, faculty and staff member. Although this is not an opportunity to recruit for your organization, it does provide new students with the access to learn more about campus life and the importance of getting involved at UTSA through your support.

The official move-in dates for Fall 2011 are August 19th and August 20th.

We will need volunteers from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19th and Saturday, August 20th. The volunteers will be asked to help students and their families move personal items into their rooms and assist with other move-in duties as needed.

If you would like to volunteer, please complete the attached Move-In Volunteer Form and email it to the respective contact person below.

(July 19, 2011)--UTSA Student Government Association officers learned about sustainability efforts at campuses around the country this month when they attended the National Association of Campus Activities Student Government Institute at the University of Denver. They met with student government officers from schools including Washington State, Virginia Tech and University of San Francisco.

"It was inspiring to see so many active student leaders from across the country, all in one location, working towards a common goal of improving campus life and sustainability," said Xavier Johnson, SGA president at UTSA.

The student government institute provides the opportunity to learn about best practices, receive training in specific areas, and network with other student leaders and student affairs professionals. In addition to sustainability, the officers attended sessions on ethics, strategic planning and creative problem solving.

After the conference, the UTSA students explored the environment and did team building by hiking and rock climbing in Rocky Mountain National Park.

UTSA's Up 'Til Dawn event raises more than $15K for St. Jude hospital

Dr. Ricardo Romo- UTSA President

(July 27, 2011)--UTSA Greek Life students and other UTSA community members recently raised $15,854 for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., as part of UTSA's Up 'Til Dawn program. It was the largest amount raised in the four years UTSA has participated. Since the UTSA program started in 2007, the group has raised $51,280.

Up 'Til Dawn is a student philanthropic program hosted by colleges and universities nationwide. UTSA organizers are committed to the cause that benefits children who are bravely fighting cancer. The money raised helps advance the mission of finding cures and saving children, so that patients can grow up and go to college, too.

UTSA's Up 'Til Dawn began with only Greek Life student participation, but was opened to the entire UTSA community two years ago. Weeks of planning and preparation culminate with the all-night event where group members ask friends, family and the UTSA community to donate to the St. Jude hospital and participate in games and activities to celebrate their efforts.

In preparation for the fifth annual Up 'Til Dawn on Nov. 12, a UTSA staff member and student leader will travel to Memphis, Tenn., at the end of July for the St. Jude's Collegiate Leadership Seminar.

To volunteer or support email Up 'Til Dawn.
