(Sept. 19, 2011) -- The UTSA women's basketball team recorded an assist of a different kind on Saturday, when they spent the day constructing a home with Habitat for Humanity.
The Roadrunners put in a full day's work in southwest San Antonio – painting, cutting and installing siding. The team had a chance to meet and work on the project with the home's future owners.
"This was a great experience for our team," said head coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair. "A lot of our girls have never done something like this before and it became an amazing team-building experience. It made everyone feel good to help out such a worthy cause, and we are happy to continue our support of Habitat for Humanity."
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that has built more than 350,000 homes, providing shelter for more than 1.75 million people in nearly 90 countries since its founding in 1976.

The UTSA Office of Admissions will host two information sessions Sept. 30 on undergraduate admissions and recruitment. The UTSA community is invited to learn about efforts to recruit and admit the incoming class of Fall 2012 by attending one of the following sessions:
-- Main Campus: 9-10 a.m., Business Building University Room (2.06.04)
-- Downtown Campus: 11 a.m.-noon, Frio Street Building Room 1.402
In the sessions, learn about the steps being taken to reach out to prospects, invite them to campus for a visit, get them through the application process and help them choose UTSA. Additionally, attendees will be informed about the best ways to refer prospective students to UTSA and opportunities for faculty and staff members to engage in the process.
For more information, contact George E. Norton, assistant vice president for student affairs (undergraduate admissions, orientation and family programs, at 210-458-4600 or george.norton@utsa.edu.
The excitement and anticipation of the first fall homecoming and first football season has reached record highs with our first win. Many members of the UTSA community, such as the VP of Student Affairs, Dr. Gage Paine, the Dean of Students Kevin Price, and President Ricardo Romo are getting their rowdy on! Now, it’s your turn to join the celebration!
You can show your Roadrunner support by purchasing the official 2011 UTSA Homecoming T-Shirt—only available at Roadrunner Express at the Main Campus, or the Durango Building Information Desk at the Downtown Campus. Shirts cost $10.00 for sizes S to XL and $12.00 for size 2XL.
“This year’s shirt showcases a student design and celebrates the start of football at UTSA along with the homecoming theme of ‘Tradition, Spirit, Pride’,” said Herb Ganey of the University Center—the department leading homecoming t-shirt efforts this year.
The shirt itself is a navy football-jersey-style shirt with white trim at the neck and sleeves. A prominent Roadrunner-focused design adorns the front with the theme ‘Tradition, Spirit, Pride’ and the number 11—for 2011—on the back. The shirt was designed by UC student graphic designers Craig Hui and Anggi Priatmadi (not pictured.)
Roadrunner Express accepts cash, checks with proper ID, major credit cards, and Inter-Departmental Transfers (IDTs). The Durango Building Information Desk accepts the UTSACard only, and has a UTSACard recharge station nearby. For information regarding Homecoming T-Shirts, please call Roadrunner Express at 210-458-6159.
