September 2012, Issue 17

Business Tips

Admin Support Staff,

As you prepare to create your FY 12-13 assignments, we must remind of you a very important state regulation. An employee that is getting credit for the entire month, must be assigned as of the 1st of the month, even if the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday.

Perfect example – most of our fall assignments start September 1. Well this year, September 1st falls on a Saturday. If the employee is scheduled to begin working on the 3rd (Monday), you must start their assignment in HRMS as of September 1, 2012. Failure to do so will result in the document being returned and delaying the hiring process of that individual.

Please refer to the state regulations below. For your reference, all paid employees (Staff, Faculty and Students), qualify for lifetime service credit.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Reference: Gov Code 659.046 Accrual of Lifetime Service Credit
(d) An employee who begins working on the first workday of a month in a position that accrues lifetime service credit is considered to have begun working on the first day of the month.
