The Progression of a Dream Exhibit

The Institute of Texan Cultures in collaboration with the Student Leadership Center and the Inclusion and Community Engagement Center would like to announce The Progression of a Dream exhibit. This exhibit features photographs taken by UTSA students that attended the civil rights exploration trip titled The Progression, and showcases insightful captions that offer a glimpse of their experiences. The photos taken by the students were captured during the trip at various sites in New Orleans, Louisiana; Birmingham, Alabama; and Memphis, Tennessee.

Nathan McDuell a senior studying Communication wrote about his experience visiting the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, “When we were younger we read about Martin Luther King, Jr. and the day that his life was taken from him. However, it is a very different experience standing in the exact location where he was at that moment. Touring this area was what I consider one of the best moments of the trip. It was a meaningful experience to know where a leader stood who made a monumental difference in the history of the world”. Nathan is just one of the students who shared not only photographs from the trip experience, but also words about how he felt at the moment when the photo was taken. This type of photo reflection was a valuable part of the student’s civil rights and social justice experience.

The UTSA Student Leadership Center would also like to recognize their graduate assistant, Ann-Margaret Gonzalez, for her hard work and dedication in collaborating with the Institute of Texan Cultures on this exhibit.

The Progression of a Dream exhibit is currently on display and will remain on display through June 30th at the Institute of Texan Cultures located at 801 East César Chávez Blvd. Students, faculty, and staff with a UTSA ID receive complimentary admission. For additional information, visit

14th Annual NIUTSA

The 14th Annual NIUTSA Pre-Fiesta Jazz-style event sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and Campus Activities Board was held at the Downtown Campus on Saturday, April 13, 2013 in collaboration with the District 5 Candidate Forum sponsored by the Student Government Association and College of Public Policy.

Two community agencies, Headstart and MADD, also set up booths and educated participants about their mission and resources.
