The Student Leadership Center recognizes UTSA students each month for their leadership contributions and qualities by honoring them as the Roadrunner of the Month. The monthly recipients will be highlighted in UTSA Today and the Vice President of Student Affairs Newsletter. In addition, they will be featured on a plaque displayed on the UTSA Legacy of Leadership wall in the University Center, outside of the ballroom.
Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to submit nominations for students, and the nominees must meet the following criteria to be considered as a recipient of the award:

On Thursday, September 26th the University Career Center hosted the S.T.E.M. and All-Majors Career Fairs. Over 700 combined total students attended and interacted with a total of 168 participating employers about career opportunities and internships. The 67 employers attending the morning S.T.E.M. Career Fair was an all-time record for the event, and the 101 employers attending the afternoon All-Majors Career Fair were the most in over five years.
The Career Center continues to offer opportunities for students and alumni to meet and network with employers. For October, the following events will be conducted:

UTSA Day is the perfect opportunity to see what it's like to be a Roadrunner. Attendees spend the day exploring our scenic campus bustling with student activity and excitement. Our information fair and presentation sessions will feature our nine colleges, financial aid, scholarships, housing and our many student services. Future students and their families should circle October 19, 2013, on their calendar, and visit UTSA between 9:00am and 3:00pm.

10/20 - Roadrunners Give Back: Official UTSA Homecoming Service Project with San Antonio Food Bank
If you have any volunteer opportunities you would like highlighted for next month, send them to Cristina Dominguez by the last Monday of the month.
Title IV Aid. ADA Accessibility. Ban on Tobacco & Smoking. Skateboarding on Campus. GRIP. These topics affect your programming and interactions with students more than you think. Come to our Fall Workshop Series “Hot Topics…Burning Issues” and “Get Your Grip on Grip” to learn how these topics will affect your job. Save the dates: November 5th and November 20th!
Alternative Spring Break empowers and challenges students to understand their relationship within the global community through education, reflection, and direct service while on weeklong service trips over spring break. Apply for UTSA Alternative Spring Break & GO SOMEWHERE!

Empowering People
The change begins with YOU, "for the people by the people."
Description: This immersion experience allows participants to engage in outreach programs with local organizations by providing assistance to people experiencing hunger and poverty in an urban environment while also having the opportunity to hear personal stories. Participants will have an opportunity to be active citizens by being empathetic and encouraging hope to those less fortunate. Projects will be Monday-Thursday.
Relieving the Disaster
Description: In this trip, participants will be working with a variety of eco restoration projects. Projects are designed to build an understanding of coastal ecosystems and watersheds and how they are affected by manmade and natural disasters. Projects may also include projects addressing child welfare, poverty, homelessness, immigration, and education. Projects will be Monday-Thursday
National Park Services:
Preserving the San Antonio We Know
Description: This trip will allow participants a chance to learn about the rich San Antonio history and culture by working with the National Park Services. Projects may include landscaping various historical missions in San Antonio. A fun team outing will end the week on Friday. This project will not involve overnight stays or travel beyond the San Antonio area.

The 14th Annual Texas Conference for Women is being held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the Austin Convention Center. The Application Deadline is October 28, 2013. The UTSA Student Leadership Center is offering a scholarship to attend this event.

The transition of the UTSA campuses to tobacco-free and smoke-free status began June 1, 2013. Through this one-year transition period, smoking and the use of tobacco products will be restricted to designated areas on campus.
UTSA is committed to supporting students and employees who wish to stop using tobacco products. For students, resources are available through Student Health Services. For employees, resources are available through the Employee Assistance Program.
