Director, Student Conduct and Community Standards

Your exemplary modeling of REACH, Active leadership, Engage citizenship and Critical thinking is well deserving of a huge Thank You Rowdy!

You led the way with your commitment to civility in our campus community beginning with the Incivility Presentation your department spearheaded and coordinated at both the 1604 and downtown campuses highlighting intervention sooner than later. The presentation identified concerning behaviors and provided a framework for campus partners to quickly navigate and access the appropriate resources on campus. With this knowledge, campus partners were intentionally called upon to question assumptions about student behavior and services on campus and take action so that students would be provided the opportunity for behavioral assistance in an effort to support their success in the classroom.

During that process, a meeting with Donna Edmonson, Academic Affairs Ombudsperson, was the springboard and opportunity to collaborate with Heather Williams, Instructional Designer, Library, Mary McNaughton-Cassill, Associate Professor, Psychology, Tom Baez, Director, Counseling Services and myself to contribute student behavioral information into an interactive resource that will be available through the Faculty Center, a unified resource for professional development. You again served as the leader and connection between Heather and the rest of the collaborators to separate and define the behaviors, identify the appropriate office available to address incivility as well as support students.

Finally, you collaborated with Sgt. Tom Calucci, UTSA police department and Derek Plantenga, Director of Field Education for Social Work about civility issues and how to handle these issues in the field setting with students. Your presentation with Sgt. Calucci to Social Work Field instructors was well received and furthered the civility message and available behavioral resources. Many of the precipitating factors leading to incivility when addressed promptly lead to student success and a caring, civil campus community. Your actions have positively impacted our students, instructors and learning environments.

Thank You!
