Our Shared Journey: Organizational Destiny and Personal Legacy

As we reach the middle of the fall semester, I want to give you something to consider. The success of your work will determine our organization's destiny and will form an important part of your personal legacy. You have to continually find ways to make every project count and go above and beyond. I want you to consider how work is connected to your personal legacy.

In Student Affairs, we emphasize that we are in this together:

  • We connect.
  • We communicate.
  • We collaborate.
  • We create.

But in the midst of all this "we", there's also an important element of "me.” You know, the proverbial "what's in it for me?" I mean, let's be honest, work and career are about financing our path in life, but at the same time, we must acknowledge that what we do is important to everyone around us.

Just for a moment imagine what it would be like if students weren't recruited, financed, registered, housed, fed, entertained, and offered meaningful non-academic activities and help developing life skills and getting that first job. I have had the privilege of seeing the Student Affairs team doing these incredibly important things for thousands of Roadrunners over many years.

You are producing high-quality programs and services for a world-ranked institution.

I want you to be able to see firsthand that the destiny of this university is linked directly to the sum of our individual efforts and that each of us is on a very personal, yet shared, journey with this university.

Each of us is helping to build an institution that will shape the future of our community for generations to come. In Dr. Romo’s State of the University Address he said, “What we hope to become will depend on you.”

Best wishes,

Sam
