I gladly pass along Thank You Rowdy to Leandra Garcia. She is a valued professional, colleague, and friend. Her work with the Hazlewood program is beyond amazing and borders on miraculous. When she first inherited the Hazelwood program, it was in complete disarray. Since then, Leandra has done a total overhaul and changed everything for the better!

She is always up to date on new legislation that affects Hazelwood and strives to effectively communicate those changes back to students and staff in a clear and concise manner. She now has the capability to accurately track every student and their Hazelwood eligibility. She checks everything from A to Z for over a thousand plus students each and every semester. If a student no longer qualifies, she will know. All these changes will potentially save UTSA millions of dollars.

She maintains an open line of communication with Fiscal Services and Vet Success to make sure that the students have all their affairs in order, and that the exemptions are applied correctly and in a timely manner to avoid any students being dropped unnecessarily. She even sometimes comes in on her day off because she is worried about students needing help or being dropped.

On top of all of that, she somehow finds the time to frequently bring in baked goods for our team. Leandra, you work so very, very hard and this Thank You Rowdy is my way of letting you know that someone has noticed and appreciates everything that you bring to our team.
