UTSA names vice president for student affairs
by David Gabler, Assistant Vice President for Communications

Officials at The University of Texas at San Antonio announced today the selection of Gage Paine as vice president for student affairs. Currently a vice president at Trinity University, Paine begins her UTSA duties Feb. 1.

UTSA President Ricardo Romo selected Paine after a nationwide search netted a slate of more than 100 candidates for the position. Paine replaces Rosalie Ambrosino, who became UTSA's provost and second-highest ranking administrator last spring.

"I am extremely pleased that Gage Paine will bring her experience and talents to the UTSA community," Romo said. "She is an energetic and talented administrator with a deep commitment to students. Moreover, she has an excellent grasp of the educational challenges facing Texas."

"I am honored and delighted to have been selected to lead student affairs at UTSA," Paine said. "It is exciting to have the opportunity to work with President Romo and the entire UTSA team. I look forward to getting to know the students, faculty and staff at the university so we can work together to create an environment that fosters student success."

Paine currently serves as vice president for student affairs at Trinity University in San Antonio. Previously, she was associate vice president for student affairs and dean of student life at Southern Methodist University in Dallas (1997-2000) and associate dean of students at the University of Texas at Austin in the areas of judicial affairs and disability services (1986-1997).

She holds a jurisdoctorate degree from Texas Tech and a Ph.D. in educational administration from UT Austin. Her dissertation focused on the impact of public policy on organization development in disability services.

Romo thanked the members of the search committee, which was chaired by Sonia Martinez, UTSA vice president for university advancement. "The committee recruited candidates who demonstrated a passion for serving students, while also having the vision and strategic ability to move student affairs forward in the years to come," Martinez said.
