New online system makes transcript ordering easy

(Oct. 14, 2005)--The UTSA Office of the Registrar has created an easier and faster way for students and alumni to request transcripts.

The new transcript request process uses the Automated Student Access Program (ASAP) online system. The turnaround time for a transcript is one to two business days.

Tutorials on transcript ordering are at the Office of Registrar Web site. After completing the tutorial, log on to ASAP... and order.

"This is going to be a great service for the students because the turnaround is so much faster," said Nancy Ekstrom, UTSA director of registration and records. "We've done the development on this really slowly because we didn't want any mistakes or glitches in the system."

All that is required of the student or alumnus is their Banner ID to log on to ASAP. Students who don't have a Banner ID number can call (210) 458-8000 or 1-800-669-0919, or go to the Enrollment Services Center on the first floor of the John Peace Library Building, 1604 Campus.

When students call for a Banner ID, the call center representative will ask them to verify certain identifying information that the university has on file. "We don't want to give out ID numbers to family or strangers -- so we're very careful about it, but at the same time we want to be customer friendly," added Ekstrom.

When ordering transcripts online to be sent to another institution, students can select the school of their choice and the address automatically is filled in the blank. The program is designed to be convenient, but also allows changes to an address. For example, the student might want to add the address of a specific university department.
