Scott McCown
School finance expert, judge speaks at UTSA

(Oct. 25, 2005)--Scott McCown, director of the Austin-based Center for Public Policy Priorities, a nonpartisan, nonprofit policy research organization, will speak on "The Challenge of Funding Public Education in Texas" at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the Buena Vista Theater (1.326) at the UTSA Downtown Campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Before his work at the center, McCown served 14 years as a state district judge. During his tenure, he presided over all of Texas' public school finance cases from 1990 to 2002 and thousands of child abuse cases. McCown is regarded as an expert on school finance and child welfare. The Center for Public Policy Priorities is committed to improving conditions for low-income Texans.

RSS FeedsMcCown is a member of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and an elected member of the American Law Institute and the Philosophical Society of Texas.
He earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology, cum laude, from Texas Christian University in 1976, and a doctor of jurisprudence degree with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1979, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and to the board of editors of The Texas Law Review.
