George Krause photo exhibit runs Nov. 3-Dec. 1

(Nov. 2, 2005)--The University of Texas at San Antonio Department of Art and Art History presents the work of renowned photographer George Krause in the exhibit, "An Overview, Featuring Recent Works," from Nov. 3 to Dec. 1 in the Arts Building gallery on the UTSA 1604 Campus. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

An opening reception is 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3.

Krause was born in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1937 and attended the Philadelphia College of Art on scholarship. He received the first Prix de Rome and the first-ever Fulbright-Hays Fellowship awarded to a photographer. Additionally, Krause earned two Guggenheim Fellowships and three grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.

In 1993, he was the first photographer selected Texas Artist of the Year.

Krause's photographs are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Houston Museum of Modern Art, the Library of Congress, Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Bibliotheque Nationale de France.

He recently retired from the University of Houston, where he founded the photography program in 1975, and now lives in Wimberley, Texas, with three dogs and eight cats.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 2-4 p.m., Sunday.
