(March 21, 2006)--UTSA Athletics Director Lynn Hickey announced today that head men's basketball coach Tim Carter will be reassigned within the university effective immediately.
"We appreciate what Tim has done during the last 11 years," Hickey said. "Tim and his staff members have always represented UTSA with class and professionalism. Those efforts will not be forgotten. This was an extremely difficult decision. We have high aspirations for our program and after a lot of deliberation, I feel it is time for a change in leadership."

Carter posted a 160-152 (.513) record in 11 seasons as head coach of the Roadrunners and owns a 171-168 (.504) career record.
The Roadrunners were 11-17 overall and 6-10 in the league in 2005-06, earning a tie for eighth place. UTSA lost to eventual champion Northwestern State in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament.
Carter's NCAA Tournament appearances came in 1999 and 2004. UTSA also shared the SLC regular season crown in 2003-04.
"I want to thank President Romo, all my colleagues and friends at UTSA for a great 11 years with the university," Carter said. "My family and I wish the team much success as they pursue victories on and off the basketball court."
Carter graduated from Kansas in 1979 and began his coaching career while receiving his master's degree from Oklahoma in 1984, where he was a graduate assistant. He then served as an assistant coach at Midwestern State from 1984-86.
He left coaching for one year to work as an NCAA enforcement representative, but returned in 1987 as an assistant at Houston. He also was an assistant at Oklahoma State (1987-90) and Northwestern (1990-94).
Carter was head coach at Nebraska-Omaha for one season before being hired by UTSA in 1995.
