UTSA is ready for first SLC Championship

(April 10, 2006)The UTSA women's golf team will compete in its first-ever Southland Conference Championship event Monday-Wednesday, April 10-12, at Kingwood Country Club's Forest Course.
The Roadrunners will face six other conference teams -- defending champion Lamar, Louisiana-Monroe, McNeese State, Nicholls State, Sam Houston State and Texas State -- in the fifth annual league championship.

The field will play 18 holes each day, beginning with 8 a.m. tee times. For directions to the course, visit http://www.kingwoodclub.com/index.htm.
The freshman trio of Laura Baker, Allie Jordan and Jenna Wessels leads a very young UTSA squad into the meet. Baker leads the team with an 80.57 scoring average during the 2005-06 campaign, including an 81.00 mark this spring. Baker also posted the team's top finish, a runner-up showing at the Lady Cardinal Invitational last September.
Jordan owns an 82.13 stroke average and a third-place showing at the Lady Cardinal, while Wessels is scoring at an 83.60 mark.
As a team, UTSA has carded an average round of 337.7 this spring, highlighted by a 321 in its final round last week at the CenturyTel Bobcat Classic. Lamar leads the league with a 314.3 scoring average.
