The Volvo for Life Awards is a national search for and celebration of everyday heroes in the categories of environment, safety and quality-of-life. Volvo Cars of North America provides more than $1 million in awards and contributions.
Berriozabal, who founded UTSA's PREP (Pre-Freshman Engineering) program in 1979, was nominated the second year the awards were given. This year, Volvo selected the top five heroes from the past five years in every state as semi-finalists and chose Berriozabal as one of five everyday heroes from Texas.
