UTSA students coordinate Care Bear Drive

(Dec. 22, 2006)--Members of the UTSA Alpha Pi chapter of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society and faculty, staff and students participated this semester in the ninth annual Care Bear Drive.

Alpha Chi members began collecting new and previously loved stuffed animals at the beginning of the fall semester. More than 500 stuffed animals were donated this year from the generous campus community. The animals were kept safe in the Office of Student Activities until it was time to say goodbye.

Alpha Chi donated this year's stuffed animals to Blue Santa of the San Antonio Police Department to give to children they encounter on the job. Blue Santa himself came to UTSA Dec. 22 to pick up the animals at the Giving Tree in the University Center lobby on the 1604 Campus.

"It is really wonderful that so many people took the time to donate to those in need. I know that a lot of children will have a smile on their face this holiday season because of the generosity of the UTSA community," said Lyndsey Battles, Alpha Chi secretary.
