UTSA to host healthy-heart luncheon, health fair

(Jan. 26, 2007)--As part of a national heart health campaign, the UTSA community is invited to the "Go Red for Women" luncheon and health fair on National Go Red Day, Feb. 2.

UTSA faculty, staff and students are encouraged to wear red to recognize heart health month and the need to educate women on their greatest heart risk. The free luncheon is noon-1 p.m., Feb. 2 in the University Center Laurel Room (2.01.28) on the 1604 Campus.

There will be free box lunches, speakers, entertainment and door prizes. A voluntary $5 donation will be collected to benefit the American Heart Association. Students can register for the luncheon by contacting Kathy Ceresoli at (210) 458-6428.

Faculty and staff can register for the luncheon at the Training and Development Web site. (Select "TXCLASS Class Listing" and enter course WK504. For assistance, call the training office at (210) 458-4658.

The Heart Healthy Health Fair, open to the UTSA community, is 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Feb. 2 in the University Center Mesquite Room (2.01.24) and Laurel Room (2.01.28). Community agencies will provide free health information, massages and screenings such as glucose (fasting preferred), blood pressure, cholesterol, body fat, foot and spinal. Information will be available on topics such as heart disease, nutrition and exercise.

Additionally, members of the UTSA Student Health Advisory Committee will distribute heart health information from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31 at the John Peace Library Building food court on the 1604 Campus.

The Go Red for Women events are sponsored by UTSA Student Health Services, Office of Human Resources, Campus Recreation, Office of Environmental Safety, Office of Housing and Residence Life, Campus Activities Board, Student Health Advisory Committee, Pre-Med Society, VOICES (Volunteer Organization Involving Community, Education and Service) and Costco.
