UTSA community invited to join Martin Luther King Jr. March

(Jan. 3, 2007)--The UTSA Office of Institutional Diversity will lead UTSA's participation in the Martin Luther King Jr. March on Jan. 15.
UTSA students, staff and faculty are invited to join the contingent in the annual march in honor of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The group will meet at 9 a.m. near the tennis courts at the Eastside Boys & Girls Club, 3500 Martin Luther King Drive. Beginning at 10 a.m., the march will go for three miles and end at Pittman Sullivan Park, 1101 Iowa St.

Each year, a variety of educational, inspirational and celebratory events in San Antonio honors the revered civil rights leaders. San Antonio hosts the largest march in the United States. This year, more than 100,000 adults and children are expected to march on Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
The 2006 MLK March and Commemorative Program, coordinated by the City of San Antonio MLK Commission, marks King's 77th birthday and the 20th anniversary of the national holiday in his honor. "Marching Toward the Dream " is the national theme. An events calendar will be listed at the City of San Antonio MLK Commemoration Web site.
