Daylight-saving changes may affect UTSA staff

(Feb. 27, 2007)--This year, daylight-saving time (DST) begins March 11 and ends Nov. 4 -- beginning three weeks earlier and ending one week later than last year. In 2005, the U.S. Congress passed the U.S. Energy Policy Act, which brought these DST changes.
Software installed in personal computers and mobile devices normally handles the time change. Because most of this software was programmed to function according to the previous DST rules, updates to the software are necessary.

Although most personal computers and BlackBerry devices at UTSA will be updated by a remote process, Outlook and Entourage e-mail applications require the user to make some manual adjustments to ensure a correct transition to the new DST time change.
The UTSA Office of Information Technology (OIT) has detailed instructions on how to update UTSA devices at the Daylight-Saving Time Web site. The site provides other best practices as well as general information on DST.
OIT Help Desk staff are available to manually configure university-owned personal computers and mobile devices, if more assistance is needed.
