Volunteers load a truck for relief mission
UTSA students help storm-ravaged towns.

(June 7, 2007)--A group of UTSA students, including volunteer coordinator Emi Sei (pronounced Emmy Say), loaded trucks and delivered donated materials for relief missions in Eagle Pass, Texas, and Piedras Negras, Mexico. The materials were donated to assist those affected by the late-April tornadoes that caused severe damage to both cities.
UTSA students moving out of UTSA's University Oaks apartments and Chisholm Hall residence hall donated many of the furnishings including beds, mattresses and desks.

RSS FeedsThe volunteers made trips to the border towns carrying beds, mattresses, desks, lamps, sheets and other donated items. Sei rented trucks at her own expense to transport the relief supplies and will continue to accept donations for deliveries throughout the summer.
Financial donations are being accepted as well as donations for relief supplies such as home furnishings, clothing, towels and linens. To donate to the effort, contact Sei at (830) 968-6664.
A pre-med student, Sei led the UTSA Alternative Spring Break service trip to Piedras Negras in mid-March, where students helped build a computer lab at an orphanage. Significantly damaged during the storm, Sei and other students will assist with repairs to the orphanage and lab while there.
