Expanded Campus Rec offers new services

By Laura Munroe
Associate Director, UTSA Campus Recreation

(Aug. 8, 2007)--With expanded facilities and new programs, the Recreation Center offers memberships to UTSA students, but also to faculty and staff members. Memberships now are available for employees' spouses or domestic partners. The fee for a spouse/domestic partner is the same as the employee's membership fee.

Memberships are $10 per month for employees with a salary of less than $20,000 per year, $18 per month for annual salaries of $20,000-$25,000 per year and $26 per month for salaries above $25,000 per year. The spouse/domestic partner will be issued a Campus Recreation membership ID at the membership services desk at the Recreation Center on the 1604 Campus.

And with the new academic year, Campus Rec members have a lot to look forward to. The newly expanded 250,000-square-foot facility will include a new weight room, cardio area, two new basketball courts, two group exercise studios and locker rooms. Opening Aug. 19, these areas will complement the two existing basketball courts and 54-foot indoor climbing wall.

By mid-September, an outdoor area will feature two sand volleyball courts and an outdoor basketball court. The centerpiece will be a swimming pool with a lap pool, leisure pool, lazy river, cool spas and hot spas. The cardio area and studios, along with a new private massage therapy and fitness assessment suite and a demonstration kitchen, will re-open in late October. In late November, four racquetball courts, two lounge spaces, a smoothie bar and indoor soccer court will open.

Download the payroll deduction form for Campus Rec membership. To ensure uninterrupted service on your membership, return the completed form to Campus Recreation by Aug. 14.

For information on locker rental, other fees and more, visit the UTSA Campus Recreation Web site; select "Operations" and then "Membership."
