UTSA's Rivera Center offers study workshops

(Sept. 17, 2007)--The UTSA Tomás Rivera Center for Student Success will host Study Smart, a series of workshops to help students learn new ways to study.

The free sessions are 2-2:45 p.m. on five Tuesdays this semester in Durango Building Room 2.114 at the Downtown Campus.

  • September 18: Time Management -- Organize yourself by setting up easy routines to study smarter and remember more. There will be free calendars and scantrons.

  • September 25: Read More, Remember Longer -- Deal with your college reading. Bring your hardest books to this workshop, and we will help you analyze them and work out a way to read, understand and remember the material.

  • October 2: Notetaking; Create a Study Guide From Your Notes -- Taking notes is a college survival skill. Learn ways to take better notes and make them into a super study guide. As a side benefit, you'll remember material better too. Free Cornell-style folio notepads.

  • October 9: Write Right -- Turn in excellent papers, no matter how short or how long. Emphasis is on research papers and organization.

  • November 20: Get Ready for Finals -- Don't stress. Make a plan to review your material, build your memory and get through finals. Reduce your anxiety about finals and get ready for that important last week.
