UTSA hosts engineering, science, business conference

(Dec. 10, 2007)--The UTSA College of Engineering Autonomous Control Center (ACE) and Southwest Research Institute hosted UTSA's second annual Engineering, Science and Business Student Conference Nov. 9 at the Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building on the 1604 Campus.

The conference included a keynote address by Mark Johnson, an Aerospace Corp. senior project engineer and physicist. The retired 27-year Air Force veteran, is currently working on space and terrestrial communication systems and survivability analyses.
At the event, students in engineering, science and business exhibited projects and conducted paper and poster presentations.
To close the conference, Southwest Research Institute principal scientist Jerry Goldstein discussed programs, discoveries and opportunities in the field of space science. A UTSA adjoint professor of physics, Goldstein recently was named one of the Brilliant 10 Young Scientists by Popular Science magazine and received a San Antonio Business Journal Forty Under 40 award.
