Alumnus, filmmaker speaks March 12 at UTSA

(March 11, 2008)--The UTSA Department of Communication will present alumnus and award-winning film director Pablo Veliz, '06, speaking on "The Art of Politics, The Politics of Art" at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 12 in Main Building Room 0.106 on the the 1604 Campus.

The award-winning director of "La Tragedia de Macario," Veliz will discuss pitching a script, funding a film, arranging distribution and daily life on a film set. Additionally, he will talk about the timeline for "La Tragedia" with details on how it was conceived, filmed and launched. Executive director of Cineveliz Inc., Veliz also will also discuss his fourth feature film, "Double Dagger," as well as his three upcoming film projects slated for production in 2008.
"La Tragedia de Macario," which was based on the worst immigrant tragedy in the history of America, was accepted at film competitions across the country including Sundance Film Festival (Park City, Utah), WorldFest (Houston), South by Southwest Film Festival (Austin) and Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and won Best Feature Film at the 2005 Pan American Film Festival.
