UTSA hosts 'Navy Day' seminar Oct. 21

By Jim Massaro
Director of Research Program Development

(Oct. 20, 2008)--The UTSA Minority Business Enterprise Center and the U.S. Navy will host "Navy Day" from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Downtown Campus. Free and open to the public, the event particularly offers opportunities for the San Antonio business community and UTSA faculty and students to learn about the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), a major Navy command organization.

"Navy Day" will provide small businesses owners and UTSA faculty with valuable information on Navy projects including current and future acquisition needs, and will expose students to opportunities for careers supporting the NAVSEA team in the design and acquisition of Navy ships and systems. Along with presentations throughout the day, there will be many opportunities for in-depth discussion.

Participants at the seminar will include City of San Antonio and Bexar County employees, city council members, local and state economic development agency representatives, public and private corporation representatives, and representatives from engineering and information technology companies from across Texas.

NAVSEA is a world-class employer of choice supported by a modern, efficient industrial base and responsible for the acquisition, engineering and maintenance of ships and systems for the U.S. Navy. With a budget of nearly $30 billion, NAVSEA accounts for one-quarter of the Navy's budget and manages more than 150 acquisition programs.
