UTSA presents art exhibit that uses language

By Tim Brownlee
Assistant Director of Public Affairs

(Feb. 13, 2009)--The UTSA Office of the President and the College of Education and Human Development will host the exhibit, "2008: International Year of Languages" from Feb. 13 through March 13 in the UTSA Downtown Art Gallery on the Durango Building first floor on the Downtown Campus.

>> An opening reception is 6-7:30 p.m. in the Durango Building Southwest Room (1.124), adjacent to the gallery. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

The exhibit features art by Martin Rodriguez, Daniel Guerrero, Rolando Briseno, Ricky Armendariz, Tess Martinez, Terry Ybanez and Guillermina Zabala.

"Art that incorporates the use of words is one of my favorite contemporary art motifs," said Arturo Almeida, exhibit curator and UTSA art specialist. "This work offers excellent examples of this style. It is a pleasure to assemble work by these talented local artists and to participate in International Year of Languages events that have been done around the world."

The exhibit is presented in conjunction with the International Year of Languages symposium on multilingual education policy on Feb. 13 in the Buena Vista Theater (1.326) on the UTSA Downtown Campus. Read more in a UTSA Today story.

Exhibit hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. For more information, contact Arturo Almeida at (210) 458-4983.
