UTSA Sophomore Day events are Feb. 17-18

(Feb. 12, 2009)--On Feb. 17 and Feb. 18, the UTSA Advising Centers will help prove that sophomores can be rock stars, too. A relatively new UTSA tradition starting in 2007, Sophomore Day aims to make sophomores feel more connected to the university through a day of fun, food and information.

This year, Sophomore Day will take the fun to a whole new level with students become rock legends in a Guitar Hero tournament. Events are Feb. 17 at the 1604 Campus and Feb. 18 at the Downtown Campus.

The party will kick off in the University Center on the 1604 Campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17. In addition to the Guitar Hero tournament, there will be information fair featuring the advising centers and a range of other campus offices.

There will be a speaker series from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with presentations on topics including money matters, leadership skills, study techniques and study abroad. If all of this information makes them hungry, a free sit-down luncheon will be provided for sophomores only. Sophomores will have the opportunity not only to enjoy tasty Italian cuisine, but also to network with other students, faculty and staff. For planning purposes, sophomores can reserve a seat at the event by e-mailing jackie.loden@utsa.edu.

Sophomore Day will then go on tour to the Downtown Campus Frio Street Building commons from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18. Students are invited to sample UTSA-themed slushies, test their musical talents at Guitar Hero and stop by the information fair.

Sophomore Day planning committee members encourage all sophomores to stop by, learn more about resources and opportunities at UTSA, try their hand at Guitar Hero -- and share in the message that "Sophomores rock!"
