Ally program advocates for GLBTQ students

(March 2, 2009)--The UTSA Inclusion and Community Engagement Center will host two training classes for UTSA faculty and staff members interested in volunteering for the Ally program. Ally volunteers support and advocate for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning students (GLBTQ).

- Wednesday, March 4, 1-4 p.m., Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building Room 2.102, 1604 Campus
- Wednesday, March 18, 9 a.m.-noon, Frio Street Building Multipurpose Room (1.402), Downtown Campus

Course description: The UTSA Ally program seeks to empower administrators, faculty, staff and students to create and maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning members of the campus community. By providing support, resources and educational programs, Ally volunteers will help GLBTQ students find their place and remain a vital part of the UTSA community.
Course objectives: On completion of the session, each Ally volunteer will be able to raise awareness and be more knowledgeable about issues facing the GLBTQ community; be a trained member of the UTSA community that will be a support and a resource for GLBTQ students; and be a part of a visible network of support comprised of administrators, faculty, staff and students.
