Volunteers needed for March 27 Texas science fair

(March 26, 2009)--Volunteers are still needed to help at this weekend's ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair (EMTSEF), a 19-cateogry competition open to moe than 1,000 middle and high school students from across Texas.
For the fifth year, UTSA will host the ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair (EMTSEF) March 27-30 at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in downtown San Antonio. The fair begins with project set-up on Friday, March 27 and concludes with an awards ceremony Monday, March 30. The event is co-sponsored by ExxonMobil, Texas Workforce Commission and UTSA. To date, volunteers are still needed for general fair assistance, the display and safety team, and judging.

ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair volunteering
General Fair Assistance (March 27-30)
- Duties: Registering students, directing traffic, setting up/breaking down and other tasks
- Eligibility: You must be able to assist with set-up and breakdown, registration, signage, traffic control, awards ceremony, parking and on-site variables
- Hours: Volunteer shifts are for four-hour blocks of time. If you are unable to work for four hours, you are invited to assist during the time you are available.
Display and Safety Team (March 28)
- Duties: Verifying project set-ups to ensure required paperwork is displayed and that the projects do not include forbidden items.
- Eligibility: Requires one hour of training and some physical activity, as well as a lot of walking on a hard floor.
- Hours/Arrival: Team members are required to attend a brief training session 30 minutes before their scheduled volunteer times.
Judging (March 29)
- Duties: Reviewing projects, interviewing finalists and encouraging future scientific pursuits by students
- Senior Division Judge Eligibility: Master's degree or higher with at least five years of experience in a science and/or engineering field.
- Junior Division Judge Eligibility: Bachelor's degree or higher with at least three years experience in a science and/or engineering field.
