(April 9, 2009)--As part of the Monday Night Artist Series, the UTSA Department of Music will present a performance by pianist Angela Chang at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 13 in the Arts Building Recital Hall on the Main Campus.

Chang will perform works by Haydn, Beethoven, Shubert, Louie and Schumann. She has won numerous awards including the 1986 gold medal of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition. She has been a soloist with virtually every Canadian orchestra, as well as the Israel Philharmonic, Buffalo Philharmonic and symphonies in Syracuse, St. Louis, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Houston, Colorado and Utah.

A native of Hong Kong, Chang received a master of music degree from Indiana University and a bachelor of music degree from Juilliard. She received stunning reviews for her debut recording of two Mozart concertos with Mario Bernardi and the CBC Vancouver Orchestra. At Indiana University, Chang studied under Menahem Pressler, an honored musician whose international career spans five decades beginning with the award of first prize at the Debussy International Piano Competition in 1946.

Chang will play on the UTSA music department's Steinway "D" concert grand piano purchased in September. The newest addition to the department, the Steinway was selected at the New York Steinway factory by David Frego, professor and chair of the Department of Music, and Kasandra Keeling, associate professor of music.

"Having a Steinway on our stage puts us on the right path toward achieving our goals as a department and serves the community at large," said Keeling.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students with identification. For more information, contact Cynthia Solis at (210) 458-5685.
