Bernstein tribute: Fiesta Under the Stars, April 24

(April 17, 2009)--The UTSA Department of Music will host the 24th annual "Fiesta Under the Stars: A Bernstein Tribute" from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 24 in the University Center Ballroom (1.106) on the Main Campus.

The fundraising dinner benefiting music scholarships is an official Fiesta event and features UTSA Department of Music faculty and students performing pieces from musicals such as "Candide," "West Side Story" and others from the works of the late composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein.

The concert will include performances of "Overture to Candide," "Profanation from Symphony No. 2," "Make Our Garden Grow," "Glitter and be Gay," and "I Feel Pretty" and "Tonight" from "West Side Story."

Scheduled performers include UTSA music faculty members Linda Poetschke, Kasandra Keeling and John Nix, and the UTSA Orchestra, UTSA Wind Ensemble, UTSA Women's Choir, UTSA Mariachi Ensemble, UTSA Guitar Quartet, UTSA Flute Ensemble, UTSA Steel Drum Ensemble and UTSA Jazz Ensemble.

Admission is $125 for special dinner seating and performances, a silent auction and an invitation to a 5:30 p.m. pre-event VIP reception hosted by UTSA President Ricardo Romo. Admission is $65 for reserved dinner seating, musical performances and silent auction.
