Business students learn about real estate industry

(April 11, 2009)--The UTSA College of Business hosted the third annual Real Estate Expo March 5. More than 200 students and representatives from 14 companies and organizations were on hand to discuss career and internship opportunities in their respective fields.

"The expo allowed students to interact with real estate industry representatives and receive feedback on the serious conditions we are all experiencing right now," said Sharon Straus, director of business development at Koontz McCombs. "The students asked intelligent questions and took time to listen to the advice of industry participants."

Participating companies were Embrey Partners, First American Commercial Property Group, Galaxy Builders Ltd., Joeris General Contractors Ltd., Koontz McCombs, Lyda Swinerton Builders, Metropolitan Contracting Co., Presidio Title and Yantis Company.

Organizational participants were Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), Institute for Real Estate Management (IREM) and the International Facility Management Association (IFMA).

"The expo allowed me to identify a variety of opportunities in the real estate industry as well as network with professionals in the real estate community," said Will Andress, a UTSA real estate finance and development major.

The expo is sponsored by the UTSA College of Business Center for Student Professional Development, the Real Estate Finance and Development program and the UTSA Career Center.

The college's dynamic Real Estate Finance and Development program has grown to more than 150 students in the last year. The college offers a B.B.A. degree in real estate finance and development, an M.B.A. concentration in real estate finance, an M.S. in finance with a concentration in real estate finance as well as a new M.S. in construction science and management.
